Jeff Pillars holds a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Eastern Michigan University. Like many former college athletes, Jeff found himself gradually losing his fitness as the years passed without a structured training program such as the one he’d enjoyed as an NCAA Swimmer. CrossFit provided a method to reclaim and enhance his strength, endurance, and mobility. Having coached swimming at the club, high school, and collegiate levels, Jeff knew that he enjoyed helping others find their potential. When the opportunity arose to become a CrossFit Trainer in 2008, he jumped at the chance. With over 8,000 hours of CrossFit Group and Private Training under his belt, Jeff enjoys finding the path to success for each individual ranging from those who begin with extreme limitations to the competitive athlete. Jeff holds the following certifications:

Dan Hunter

Dan earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Eastern Michigan University and his Juris Doctor from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Dan grew up playing football, soccer, and wrestling and has always had a passion for strength training. However, after 15 years of focusing on academics and career he found himself overweight and out of shape. Years of smoking and over eating had taken their toll and at 44 Dan knew it was time to make a change. Like many people in that position, he struggled with a series of failed diets and attempts to find success in traditional gyms. Nothing seemed to provide a solution he could stick with and build upon in the long term.

Then, in 2010 Dan found CrossFit and has never looked back. Since starting CrossFit Dan quit smoking and has lost close to 40 pounds.

Armed with first-hand experience in the emotional and physical difficulty involved in overcoming serious challenges such as obesity and smoking, Dan became inspired to help others do the same. He began developing the education and experience needed to train those seeking to reclaim their vitality and maintain long term health and fitness.

Joelle Emery grew up playing soccer, basketball, and softball and was a 12 season varsity athlete in high school. In college, she was a starting defender on the Tufts’ soccer team and played in the NCAA Final Four. Throughout her soccer career, she was awarded All-Academic Team, All-NESCAC Second Team, and All-New England Third Team. After graduation and years of being active, she suddenly found herself without the structure and motivation to stay in shape that team sports had always provided. A series of gyms came and went while her frustration grew.

Shortly after Joelle’s move to Michigan, a friend suggested that CrossFit might be the solution. She went in for her introductory session and was hooked. There she found a community of people who motivated her to push for constant improvement and find a level of confidence and strength she didn’t know was possible. Joelle now pursues extra training with the goal of eventually qualifying for Regionals.

Joelle has Bachelor’s Degrees in Child Development and Psychology from Tufts University and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine. She pursued her education with the goal of helping people, but since finding Crossfit, has realized that counseling is not the only way to achieve this. The improvements to her own health and happiness through CrossFit have inspired her to dedicate her future to helping others to also discover their capabilities, achieve their goals, and take pride in their own strength.
